Setting up and managing Mollie payment methods #
With Mollie as your payment gateway you can offer various payment methods in your webshop, such as iDEAL, credit card, PayPal and Klarna. You manage these payment methods from two places: your Autorespond administration and your Mollie dashboard.
Setting up payment methods in Autorespond #
In your Autorespond administration, go to Shop → Shop Settings and open the ‘Mollie settings’ tab. Here you will find all the options for your Mollie payment gateway:
- API keys: your live and test API keys from Mollie
- Payment methods: which payment methods are active in your webshop
- Order statuses: how orders are handled for the various payment statuses
- Descriptions: what customers see with their payments
Tick the payment methods you want to offer. Please note: a payment method has to be activated in your Mollie account before you can switch it on here.
Activating payment methods in your Mollie account #
Log in to your Mollie dashboard through mollie.com to activate new payment methods or change your settings. Here you can:
- Apply for new payment methods (credit card, PayPal, Klarna, etc.)
- View your rates and charges
- Manage payout settings
- View transaction overviews
Changes you make in your Mollie account are applied to your webshop automatically, usually within a few minutes.
Common payment methods #
iDEAL is available as standard for all Dutch Mollie accounts. Different conditions apply to other payment methods:
- Credit card (Visa/Mastercard): requires approval by Mollie
- PayPal: you need a PayPal Business account
- Klarna: only available after approval and for certain sectors
- Bancontact: available for Belgian customers
- SEPA direct debit: for recurring payments and subscriptions
Problems with payment methods #
If a payment method does not appear in your webshop, check:
- Whether the payment method is activated in your Mollie account
- Whether you are using the right API keys (live, not test)
- Whether the payment method is ticked in Shop → Shop Settings → ‘Mollie settings’ tab
- Whether minimum amounts apply to certain payment methods
For technical problems you can test the connection through the Mollie settings in your shop. There is a button there to check the API connection.
